With
the other dogs...
Akita is not an ideal dog with the other dogs... The male is very dominating
and is not tolerant of his fellow creatures... A brother of Saku
was killed, because of his aggressiveness towards the other dogs, when
he was 8 months old... I confess that I was very shocked, even through
I did not know the dog... Shocked at his owners, but also shocked that
a vet would agree to kill a healthy dog ... It seems that his owners wanted
to have him trained in a dog training school, but none would accept Akita
... Eh yes, I should mention that training methods, which work with other
dogs, do not work with Akita...! So, rather than adapt to these dogs, trainers
refuse them... Very few dog training schools know and accept Akita... Sakura
too is very dominating, but her way of dominating is a little different
from the male's way... Nevertheless, she is dominating, and she likes the
raisest places, from where she can supervise the surroundings, and intervene
if necessary... Dominating also, when her raises the leg "to cover" odours
left by other dogs...!
Saku has several ways of reacting, according to the other dogs... If it
is a small quiet male, she will play with him, lying down to be at his
height (she loves Yorks, for example). With a frisky small one, she growls
loudly to show who's the boss, and then ignores him... If it is a large
male, she initially will subdue him, with meaningful growls, and then,
she will play with him. With bitches, the situation is more complex...
But in any case, she has never attacked a smaller bitch... At most, if
a small one annoys her, she knocks her on the ground with a blow of her
leg and lies down on her, adopting an air of big innocent baby... With
large bitches, there could be a fight so best to avoid a confrontation...
But when she knows the dog (or any other animal such as a cat, a rabbit,
a guinea-pig, etc...) there is never any problem... it is a buddy! I always
have Sakura with me, in my of grooming shop, and I have never had a problem...
More, she acts as a policeman with the others, and restores peace if a
brawl threatens or if a dog becomes agressive with me... The shop has never
so quiet before Saku came there... She takes care of everything so that
I have nothing to say or to do... except my work... naturally...!
