A
Samourai with 4 legs...
Akitas do
not behave like other dogs... Their origin??? Japan... They belonged to
the imperial family, nobles of the time, and Samourais, from which
they have their temperament : courage, endurance, tenacity, pride, and
an aptitude to judge any situation, and act accordingly... They show suprising
intelligence, know have to take advantage the smallest weakness in the
"opposition"... But on the other hand, Akita are very protective of weaker
things, such as children or crippled animals ... I have seen Saku holding
at bay two males which wanted "to annoy" a small bitch with was partly
paralysed... You should have see the grateful look the "small mother" gave
to my bitch!! She then lay down Sakura, very confiding... Saku has also
saved two small birds which are going to drown, holdind delicately them
in her mouth...
As for
me, anyone can approach me without a problem... But watch out anyone thinking
of maltreating me!!! I saw Sakura on two or three occasions change expression
when something alerted her... It is very odd, because there is practically
no warning sign as there would be with the other dogs: she does not grunt,
her hair does not bristle, she does not bark, she does not show her teeth...
Only her look changes, becoming fixe and completely expression less (like
the eyes of a shark, I say) and a very small grin raises a chop... I believe
this behaviour makes a bigger impression than a dog which starts jumping
about in all directions : this shows a coldly determined dog, which will
bite without emotion, just because it is doing her duty...! It almost makes
one shudder...
One should
not try to train an Akita, because this could disturb this faculty of judgement,
and create a unbalanced dangerous dog ... This is not a dog which one can
launch and then stop to order...! And when one remembers that it spent
a few decades, at the start of the 20eme century, in the fighting-rings,
it is all the more necessary to be wary... Moreover, under its lazy appearance
(the less it does, the faster it reacts...), it hides incredible speed
of execution... Even through one is aware of this, its lighting response
is always astonishing, because it is such contrast with its usual nonchalance...
..they are very protective with the weak
things...
(with a thin and frightened kitten that
we had just found ...)
